The Eco-adventure Backwater Resort Nestled amid swaying palms and spread over 7 acres of meticulously landscaped exteriors, Backwater Ripples fronts the magnificence of the expansive Vembanad Lake stretching endlessly into the horizon and is truly a destination of its own. The architecture is traditional exuding an ambience of a bygone era. Intricately carved stone pillars painstakingly transplanted from ancient ‘illams’ or traditional homesteads support the tiled gabled roof structures.

These low-rise buildings are connected on either side to the central facilities of the hotel by cobbled walkways, which wind through the lush tropical gardens, well laid-out with plenty of open space in-between. Complimented with a swimming pool on the Lake’s edge, lounge chairs, deck seating and water sports facilities, Backwater Ripples offers 34 luxury independent air-conditioned cottages and executive rooms in a variety of styles to cater to a range of requirements/budgets.

The accommodation is spacious, private and superbly appointed with state-of-the-art designer amenities and personalized service. It is a wholly self-contained resort where every possible aspect of comfort and guest service has been considered, and the result is clear with superb accommodation, immaculate gardens, impeccable service and superlative dining.

KUMARAKOM – A Vibrant Backwater Hamlet

42 of the 44 freshwater rivers originating in the Western Ghats , flow east carving an intricate network of waterways. These rivers and canals with fertile alluvial banks is the secret of Kerala’s stunning canopy of greenery, earning her the sobriquet – “land of coconuts and rivers.” Vast stretches of lagoons or backwaters are formed where these rivers meet before emptying into the cobalt blue of the Arabian Sea. Kumarakom is a tiny hamlet perched on the western banks of the Vembanad Lake – a stretch of backwater spread over 900 sq. kilometers. The hamlet clings to tradition and the local population prefers to live adhering to their old ways. Yet every modern amenity is available with a dash of tradition and culture interwoven into the fabric of everyday life and is truly fascinating to observe as you glide past them in your canoe, motorboat or houseboat– a perfect example of give and take with Mother Nature…Naturally.
